Wednesday, June 27

Remember! We have no formal, last-Wednesday-of-the-month meeting in June or July. Our next "formal" meeting at the Winslow Center will not be until the end of August. This is usually a "very fun" think tank type of meeting where we all plan the upcoming year! We will be continuing with our blending projects and will have Conference in May to think about [guild display]. The more people thinking, the better! 7:30 pm, August 29.

Our June meeting was our annual Spinning at the Winery, which was another great success. The bags we made from previous season's T-shirts sold well. I was hanging them up while we were setting up, stepped back to look at them [and especially at the one that I was considering buying] and some early bird walked up, took it and said, "Where do I pay?" We had an unofficial attendance of about 90-100 which made the buffet lunch incredible with options. Will & Kate's idea of having the raffle was quite an attention getter and turned a tidy profit for the guild. Thanks to all of you who came out to set up, work the money table and the the lunch table, and take down. Even Carolyn came, on crutches, to help. Thank you all again.

July's meeting will be on Saturday the 14th at Linnie's house,1280 Elmwood Dr. Walnut Creek at 10 am. This is our annual "Dye Day" and Linnie will be sending out an email reminder along with further information about what you will need to bring. Our main project for this Dye Day will be shibori dyeing of silk scarves. Dyes and two scarves per person will be supplied by the Guild. We had a sign up sheet at the last meeting for extra scarves. If you want to purchase extra scarves to play around with, they are quite inexpensive, call Pam at 944-1318, to see if she has extras or can still order them. Bring a lunch and spend the day dyeing.

Black Sheep Gathering for this year saw our team, the Web Slingers West, go up for a sheep to shawl contest. We had the best shawl but got third place. How did that happen? Well, we definitely have the best team and the most fun. That part of Oregon is lovely, the weather's nice and cool, the breweries are terrific. All that and lots of sheep too! I just want to know why were there so many white sheep at the Black Sheep Gathering?

Web Slingers West will also be doing the Sheep to Shawl contest at the Alameda County Fair Grounds on July 8th. This is a truly nice event with lots of people contact. I think the team is set for now [there can be 8 people], but to find out for sure or if you have any questions about our team or our "Man-Made" competitors, call Will at 228-7233. Will is always on the look-out for men who spin to be on his "Man-Made" team. If you know of anyone, call him. The contest begins at 9 am, and we can usually get into the Young California building by 8 am for set up.
