Vilija chaired our September meeting with our new year’s program of featuring color. The color of the month was RED. We had two visitors, Donna and Christine. Both live nearby and are looking forward to learning to spin. We shared the Monday and Wednesday “circles” meeting times with them so they can get going faster than one meeting a month. Our blog journalist, Kelly, will be out of country, so contact other members for any needed information.
The shawls from the fiber to shawl competition at the Alameda County Fair were sent to us for display at our guild meeting, complete with judging sheets and closeup pictures of the weave structures. What a great way to save the year’s competition in miniature. Lots were cast among the Web Slingers West for the shawl created at the fair. The lucky winner, Linda B. , gets to take the shawl home after they all make the rounds of the guilds for display.
Pam thanked the spinners who participated in John Muir Days festival, and showed a thank you note from Liz Eckstine, who mentioned there will be an Earth Days Festival on April 22, 2006.
We will send a spinner to the Bale Grist Mill festival both days of October 8 and October 9, 2005, to show how the households of the mid 1800's functioned. We will next do a fiber to shawl demo at the Deer Hill Ranch on October 16, 2005.
The guild’s business meeting let us know that our yearly dues are now payable. Our year runs from August to July, 31. The current officers have agreed to another year’s service. The CNCH liaison must now print the CINCH notes for members without e-mail access, as a money saving trial. Much was said about the lack of communication with CNCH officers. The next CNCH meeting will be in Merced with the theme “From the Sierra to the Pacific” for 2006. Our area will do the Asilomar meeting in 2007, an alternative conference.
We have sad news to share. One of our earliest and most enthusiastic members, Dorothy DeHaven passed away peacefully on October 2, 2005. Her memorial will be October 24, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church Senior Center, 40 Knox Drive, Lafayette, CA 94549. If you would like to make a donation in her honor, you may donate to the Orinda-Moraga-Lafayette Branch of American Association of University Women, at AAUW-OML (check memo note "scholarship fund") P.O.Box 6705, Moraga, CA 94570.
We shared all the fibers, yarns, blends, knitted objects and woven fabrics in the shades of RED as our monthly color study. This month’s color will be Orange for October, of course. November’s color is yellow. Thanks, Kristin, for the refreshments.
