August Planning Meeting Minutes
The August planning meeting for Treadles to Threads 2007-2008 meeting year was well attended and invigorating.
Treasurer's Report
Treasurer Pam reported that the treasury was in such a state that we could invite well known speakers who may require travel monies and/or an honorarium, as well as reduce this year’s dues! See or e-mail Pam about the new amounts if you have not already paid dues. Those who provided raffle prizes at the winery and those who put together our novelty bags to sell there provided a nice chunk of “ dough” for the treasury.
New Potential Members
We were honored to have two new visitors, Leslie and Mary Helen. Leslie is an elementary school teacher as well as teaching in adult ed, so we will only see her at a few meetings for now.
Mary Helen is currently retired, and lives in the East Bay.
Other Business
Tamara volunteered to attend the Sept. 29, 2007, meeting of CNCH coordinators to be held at the Sacramento Double Tree, site of the May, 2008, CNCH conference. This is a major conference, and our guilds will be expected to help out, as well as submit our work for display. Tamara will hear about the plans, and pick up registration materials for our guild. Keep the first weekend in May open, as there are many workshops, events, and vendors to keep us occupied.
Gail presented a short description of the Color Blending workshop, showing the many examples of the color wheel that each participant blended and spun for themselves. We will use this information and techniques learned from Judith McKenzie to prepare our CNCH display for our part of the booth display in May, 2008.
We had a wonderful show and tell with many scarves from the Dye day on display. Our spinners, knitters and weavers had also been quite busy.
Linnie has volunteered to oversee the meeting refreshments this year. Remember to bring your own drinking vessel! Be prepared to sign up for the coming year at the September meeting.
2007-08 Planning
The meeting planning portion was productive with more meeting ideas than months! September will be a presentation by Susie Hodges, mistress of many fiber arts, colorful character, and recently retired CNCH Advisory Council member. BRING YOUR WHEEL.
October is open, and November meeting, after Thanksgiving, will be Laurie Cavala, a local person involved in Civil War historical reinactments.
December, as planned, will be our annual luncheon and “sheep” ornament exchange.
Other names mentioned for contact information were: Katrina Worly, professor at American River College; Nancy Finn, lecture and workshop; Judith McKenzie, trunk show; Mollie Freeman, Barbara Shapiro, Barbara Netzberry, dying and surface design; Holly Brackman, workshop; and Wild Fiber magazine editor, Linda Courtwright, to discuss the U.N. Year of Natural Fibers for 2009. An overseas guild exchange was mentioned as well. June will be the Spinning at the Winery meeting.
CNCH has posted the quarterly newsletter on their website, with lots of good information about the May conference, so log on for a peek. This site is the go-to place for contact, workshop and vendor information for the May conference.
(thanks to Linda for providing excellent notes!)
